The Lakeside Ballroom is a historical building, built in 1924. It was originally an amusement park then a flea market. Today it is used for entertainment. The building is roughly 28,000sq ft with a 10,000sq ft. maple wooden dance floor. It seats approximately 4,000,concert style and roughly 5,500 standing room only.

Rock Bridge
Location: On township route 452 east of Rock in Washington Township.

This small Burr arch-truss bridge has vertical siding and a gable roof. Steel inside barriers have been added to protect the trussing system from traffic.

Zimmerman's Bridge
Location: On township route 661 west of Rock in Washington Township.
Stream: Little Swatara Creek

Length: 50 ft. 6 in.

Condition: Good
This bridge is one of the two remaining covered bridges in Schuylkill County. At one time there were fifty-one of these wooden spans in the county. It is identical to the Rock Bridge in styling.

After visiting the Pioneer Tunnel Coal Mine, make sure you see the Mothers Memorial located near the intersection of Center Street and Hoffman Boulevard in downtown Ashland. The world's only memorial dedicated to mothers.

Coal Miners State and Brick Memorial
Located at intersection of Routes 901 and 209, one mile east of Minersville, in front of Turkey Hill Mini Market. The Coal Miners Statue and Park in dedicated to those who labored in the Anthracite Coal Mines. Hiking

Appalachian Trail
Traverses Schuylkill County as it meanders along the Blue Mountain. Trail access points located off Routes 645 and 501 south of Pine Grove, from Route 183, between Summit Station and Shartlesville (Berks), off Route 61 at Port Clinton, from Hawk Mountain Road between Drehersville and Kempton (Berks) and off Route 309 between the village of Snyders and Schnecksville (Lehigh).

Frog Hollow Environmental Education Center
Frog Hollow is a 28 acre forested preserve by the Upper Little Swatara Creek in Freidensburg, PA. Trails are open seven days during daylight hours only. August is a wonderful month to take a walk in Frog Hollow along the Woodland Walkway, Creekway Walkway or the Wildflower Walkway and see loads of wildflowers.

Historic Tow Path Trail
Situated along the Schuylkill River at Port Clinton is a two-mile, riverbank trail, which meanders through a number of Schuylkill Canal Locks. This trail passes through State Game Lands, therefore access is limited during Hunting Season.

Lehigh & New England Rail-Trail
The Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission opened the Lehigh & New England Rail-Trail in June 2002. The 2.8-mile trail runs along the east side of Route 309 between Mermon Motors in Tamaqua and Dairy Road in West Penn Township (across from Leiby's Restaurant). The trail is a crushed stone surface and is approximately 8-10 feet wide. The trail passes by the historic Shellhammer's Dam/Ice House and also has links to state game lands and streams for both fishing and hunting access. This trail also has numerous scenic rock faces. The trail is open to all non-motorized use, including running, walking, biking, and hiking.

Schuylkill County Fair

Schuylkill On The Move encourages people to take positive steps toward good health and is an advocate for more walkable communities here in Schuylkill County. Schuylkill Valley Heritage Trail
The 8.2-mile Schuylkill Valley Heritage Trail runs along the south side of Route 209 between Tamaqua and Middleport. The trailhead will be at the newly constructed Newkirk Tunnel environmental education/historic recreation area and the trail will pass through the small coal patch towns of Newkirk, Reevesdale, Tuscarora, Mary D, and Brockton. The surrounding areas of the trail are presently used for coal mining and highway use. The SVHT will link with the Bartram Trail system, a forty-plus mile trail system in Schuylkill County, and will link the Lehigh & New England Rail-Trail (on Route 309). The trail is a soft crushed stone surface and is approximately 8 - 10 feet wide. The trail is open to all non-motorized use, and is especially suitable for running, walking, and hiking.

Swatara State Park

The 3,515-acre Swatara State Park consists of rolling fields and woodlands situated along Interstate 81 between Second and Blue mountains. One of the main focal points is the eight miles of Swatara Creek that winds through the park. Swatara State Park was acquired with capital development funds appropriated by the Pennsylvania General Assembly. A recreation area is planned for the future and will offer canoeing, fishing, hiking, picnicking, bicycling, swimming, camping and environmental education.

Sweet Arrow Lake County Park
The Sweet Arrow Lake property is located in Washington and Pine Grove Townships, Schuylkill County. Major access routes include Sweet Arrow Lake Road along the northern border of the lake and State Route 443 that provides access to the southern portion of the site via Clubhouse Road. The park is presently under development but is open to the public to enjoy the natural beauty, hiking, fishing and boating that people have enjoyed for generations.
